Edgecliff lies 4km east of the CBD in the Municipality of Woollahra close to Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay and Woollahra. Although the heart of Edgecliff is dominated by high rise building and modern security blocks, the suburb offers a range of properties from grand Victorian terraces to refurbished worker’s cottages, resort-style complexes and townhomes. Due to its elevated setting, many of the homes enjoy views over the harbour and city. Of particular architectural note is Dower House, a heritage listed Victorian Gothic Revival sandstone manor built c1842 by Whistler Smith which is now the site of the prestigious Ascham School.
Edgecliff’s Eastpoint Centre forms the hub of the retail area with the numerous food stores, cafés, supermarkets (including the cut-price Aldi) and the station is on the Bondi Junction line with regular services to the city. It’s also a short walk to Rushcutters Bay Park and Double Bay’s exclusive shopping village as well as Woollahra cafés and delis.
Edgecliff is a sought-after suburb due to its proximity to the city, harbour attractions and beaches. Although it doesn’t have any local schools, it’s close to Double Bay and Paddington schools and the prestigious private schools including Scots and Cranbrook as well as Sydney Grammar.
